JET Band Booster Blast 6/18/18

Hi all!  It is almost here!  Our shifts at the Fireworks building begin this weekend!  Address to Galaxy Fireworks is 21311 Katy Freeway.

Thanks to all of you who were able to attend the volunteer meeting on Saturday, it was a great turnout!

Below are the highlights of the meeting:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your shift. Carpooling is recommended, and parking at the back of the building is preferred, especially on the 3rd and 4th of July.  If you are being picked up at the end of your shift, make sure your ride arrives right on time.
  • Dress code: You will be required to wear your fireworks t-shirt.  If you did not get one, you can get one when you arrive for your shift (be early!). Shirt MUST BE TUCKED IN! No short shorts, no flip flops, neat hair and beards. No ball caps.
  • There is a break area where you can leave food and drink, and the food and drink must stay in the break area, not on the sales floor.  You cannot leave during your shift to get food, so be sure to bring what you want, or have it delivered.
  • If you find that you cannot work your assigned shift, you are responsible for finding a replacement.  We will be charged an hourly rate for unfilled shifts, and we don’t want that!
  • Even though this is volunteer work, it is expected by management of the building and by the JET Band Boosters that behavior, appearance and customer service is top-notch!
  • Details of your individual stations will be provided when you arrive.
  • We will have a sign-in sheet to log volunteer hours.

Everyone, please keep signing up for shifts, and asking your parents, as well.  If you missed the training session, no worries!  Just go ahead and sign up and we will train you when you arrive.

We are still very short of ADULT volunteers, and the adults are needed! Remember, we need every band student and at least one parent to participate.

Thanks, all!

Kristin can be reached at kabel1992@gmail.com or fireworks@jetband.org for any questions.

JET Band Booster Blast 6/12/18

Message From Spencer Bennett, President JET Band Boosters

JET Band Boosters,

A quick note about volunteering.  It is the cornerstone of the JET Band Organization.  Just a little of your time on a regular basis goes a long way.  If we all participate, the organization can do amazing things for the band program.  Volunteering is fun, the students appreciate it, and most importantly, students excel when parents are involved.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • FireworksEvery student in the band program benefits from this fundraiser! Multiple times still open for parent and student involvement.
  • Mums. Please contact Sharon Mitchell or Cindi Adams at mums@jetband.org.  They could really use the help. Read more…
  • Loading Crew Chair. Alright Dads, we need help finding a loading crew coordinator.  This position is an integral part of the band and we need a good team put together with the help of a new leader.  Tim Matava did a great job last year but he is graduating from the program (with his son).  He has offered to help with the transition of bringing someone up to speed.  We are in need!

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Fireworks Training: June 16th from 1-2:30pm (training is required for all volunteers)
  • Fireworks Sale: June 24th – July 4th
  • Fireworks Inventory Day: July 7th
  • First JET Band meeting kickoff for the 2018 marching season:  July 23rd, 7pm at the PAC (Performing Arts Center)
  • March-a-Thon is August 18th .  Start spreading the word about MAT (friends, family, neighbors).  There will be pledge forms on the website soon so everyone can start booking their personal concerts.
  • JET Band Food Truck Fest is set for Friday, August 24th

Continue to check the JET Band Website at jetband.org for all dates and information.  Click on the Calendar link to launch the Charms calendar.

If you know of anyone who is not receiving the Blast, please have them email blast@jetband.org to be added to the distribution list.

And, I am just an email away at president@jetband.org and I always welcome hearing from you!

System Blue Camp

July 19, 2018 – Taylor High School
July 20, 2018 – Legacy Stadium

This summer, we are hosting the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps from Concord, California. In conjunction with their stay, we are also hosting their System Blue Camp. This camp is optional, however we highly recommend students participate.

The 18-time World Champions Blue Devils are to marching band what the New England Patriots are to football. As JET Band heads into its summer marching band camp, the System Blue Camp is a great opportunity for students to work alongside and learn from the best of the best of the best.

Click here for more information and to register for camp. Katy ISD students receive a discount using the promo code TXKATY2018.

Get (cross)fit this summer!

Does your student want/need to be in better shape and have the physical skills and coordination necessary to be an excellent marcher? New this summer is an optional CrossFit camp to help our students get/stay in shape, get acclimated to the summer heat, and be physically ready to hit the pavement when summer band starts.

CrossFit Camp Details

  • 8-week or 4-week camps available
  • Location: CrossFit GonzStrong box (In CrossFit lingo that means the gym), or the band parking lot depending on turnout.
  • Three days a week – Tues, Wed, and Thurs from 9:15-10am.
  • Every class is taught by a certified CrossFit trainer.

https://crossfitgonzstrongbandcamp.eventbrite.com/

We chose this schedule to leave summer weekends available for travel and vacations.  Parents of students enrolled are welcome to join the classes for FREE. Several of our band students are already working out at the CrossFit box after school and there are a few band parents that are members. Brooke Gonzalez, the owner, is a former KISD teacher and coach. If you have any questions directly related to this summer camp, you may contact Brooke via the links on the Eventbrite page. Also please note the map on the Eventbrite page is incorrect; CrossFit Gonzstrong isn’t located north on Mason, it’s in the industrial park at I-10 & Westgreen behind Spring Creek BBQ.
