Message from the Band Director
Good evening, as I mentioned yesterday in our Zoom things could change tomorrow and boy did they! As you probably have seen UIL pushed dates back and BOA (Bands of America) cancelled all their contests today.
UIL now says we can’t start learning the drill to our show prior to September 7, the first football game is pushed back to the third week of September, UIL Region marching contest is going to be around the first of December, and the UIL State Marching Contest will be before Christmas. Although the other non-UIL contests like the Katy Marching Fest haven’t been cancelled yet, I think it’s safe to assume that’s coming.
UIL will be the only marching contests we go to this year. Because of that and this new schedule, we have decided to shelve our “Bloom” show and save it for 2021. We will perform our Elton John show at football games and UIL this fall.
Color Guard and Percussion are going to finish their camps this week as scheduled. Next week (July 27) everyone will be off. We plan to have every section back on campus in some fashion starting August 3rd.
We are planning a myriad of instructional ideas from Zoom sectionals led by the student leaders, to Region Band masterclasses both live and virtual, small section marching fundamentals, small section music rehearsals, and online assignments. It’s going to take some time to plan all this out and make sure we can pull it off using the latest safety guidelines.
More details will be coming as we receive further direction from KISD and we have time to put together our rehearsal plans, but I wanted to get this information out ASAP.
Thanks for your patience and understanding in these difficult and uncharted times.
