Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands
Our first performance of Empty Spaces Saturday night was a success. Huge thank you to Jenny Singson, Chris Abel, Cory Mullin and their team who spent many hours getting the props ready (and thanks in advance for the hours they are about to put in to add all the LED lights to them).
Posting Videos of our performances – we want you to video your student and share it with your family and friends. The best way to do so is to post the video on YouTube as an unlisted video, then you can share the link. Please DO NOT post the videos to YouTube without making them unlisted. If you do so, you are not only breaking copyright laws, you are also making it easy for competing bands to scope out the competition.
Grades – the end of the 6 weeks is this Friday; that means Report Card grades are due this Friday. The grades on the Report Card are what determine eligibility. If your student is failing any non-AP class, they will no longer be able to travel or perform with the marching band. This week please make sure your student is studying and turning in all their work. They can get carried away with all the Homecoming activities and forget about their academics.
Rehearsal schedule this week is Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. Thursday, our choreographer will be here from California to work with us on the show. Friday night, we’ll perform what we know of the contest show AFTER the football game. At Halftime we just go out and play the Alma Mater after the Homecoming coronation. Friday’s itinerary is attached. (Click here for itinerary)

Message from Jon Cabot, Assistant Band Director and Percussion Coordinator
We have our first drumline contest this Saturday, September 21. We perform at 2:20pm in the Seven Lakes HS Stadium (weather permitting). I could use a couple of volunteers for bus chaperones, snacks, loading crew, etc. If you’re available, I’d love to have you. Volunteer opportunities are on the HelperHelper app.
Thank you for your help and support. The kids are working REALLY hard to make this a special season. I hope to see you there.

Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President
Kudos to our students and staff on the successful debut of Empty Spaces! Countless thanks to the loading crew/ prop team for literally redesigning and building out our new props. Your hard work and dedication are very much appreciated. Thanks as well to all of the volunteers who turned out to help with mums in the past week, as well as all of our game day volunteers.
Homecoming is this coming weekend. Our mum makers are working hard to complete the glut of orders that (thankfully) have come in over the past week. If you are available to help with making mums or with distribution in the afternoons, please do so!
In the next week or so, we will start sending out more information about the four marching contests that will take place at Legacy Stadium in October. We have committed to helping the district host these events by providing volunteers for all and running the concession stand for two of them. We will add the specific volunteer shifts and descriptions to Helper Helper as soon as those details have been finalized. For now, please mark your calendars for the following dates:
- October 5th – BOA
- October 12th – Katy Marching Festival
- October 22nd – UIL Marching Contest (Concessions, Gate)
- October 26th – 5A Area Marching Contest (Concessions)
Please be aware that Student Activity Fees are due by October 1st. Statements have gone out via email in the past couple of weeks. You can also check your student’s account to confirm the amount owed in Charms at any time. Please send any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you will have difficulty paying the fee in a timely manner, please contact Mr. Ary at email@example.com.
We still have a few committee chair/coordinator positions available for anyone who would like to step up to a greater level of involvement. Click here to see the updated 2019-20 JET Band Booster Board. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested or have questions!

Band Activity Fee
Band Activity Fee payments are now being collected. Following the payment schedule, there are two ways to pay:
1. Place your check made out to JET Band Boosters into a sealed envelope, labeled “Student Activity Fee”, with your student’s name. Have your student place the envelope in the safe in the band hall.
2. Access your Charms account to pay via credit card. Go to www.jetband.org, click ‘Charms’ option;
- The user code will already be entered, then ‘Enter Charms’ to put in your password. The password will be your child’s ID unless you/your child personally changed the password on the account. Password resets will not be available until August.
- Click the red $ icon at top or the Wallet Icon on the bottom. Your Child’s Misc Financial Ledger will be visible
- Scroll down and there will be an option to “Make a Misc. Payment”.
All current payments that have been made towards the activity fee are shown as posted to your student’s account. The corresponding charge for the activity fee will be posted after school starts. Please email Treasurer@jetband.org with any questions.
Each student that uses a school instrument is to pay $80 per year, per instrument. The fee is an annual fee, regardless of the amount of time that the instrument is used. Payment can be made via check, made out to KISD along with the Maintenance Fee Agreement form, turned in to the band safe in a labeled envelope. Payment can also be made through Charms > RevTrak with a 2% processing fee. School code is JETaylorBand
TAYLOR HOMECOMING IS THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th!
If you are able to help with making mums or mum distribution in the next few days, shifts are available in Helper Helper. Information is also posted in the Facebook group. Please help out if you can!
We are no longer accepting custom mum orders. However, plenty of ready-made mums and garters will be available for purchase over the next couple of days.

We now have new spirit wear options available through two new online shops. Items in these shops will be shipped directly to you rather than being ordered as part of a group. These shops will be available throughout the year and 5% of each sale will go to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund to help provide for those students who may have a need for help with meeting the expense of participating in band and guard. Generous alumni parents have offered matching funds for donations to the JET Band Assistance Fund. If you’d like to help, you can donate in any amount by check made out to JET Band Boosters, in an envelope labeled “JET Band Assistance Fund”, dropped into the band safe.
