Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands
Congratulations to our Winter Guards! This past weekend both groups competed at the TCGC Area Finals at Pearland HS. The Varsity guard placed 2nd in the Open Classification and was the highest ranked KISD school. The JV guard placed 6th in the A Classification. This past weekend the Varsity guard also advanced to the Finals round of the WGI world championships via their virtual performance. The WGI virtual Finals will take place this weekend.
This week is UIL for the non-varsity bands. Mr. Cabot’s first period Concert Band performs Thursday at 11am. Mr. Weingartner’s fourth period Symphonic Band performs Friday at 10am. Spectators are not allowed at UIL during the school day due to Covid regulations, but we will try to livestream both performances on the band’s Facebook page. Students in both of these ensembles need to wear their “Sunday best” to school the day of their performance. We will be back on campus in time for them to eat lunch in the cafeteria and then attend 6th and 7th periods.
The Band Banquet is coming up on Saturday, May 1st. It is going to be much different than in year’s past. Normally we rent the community room at Legacy stadium, have a catered meal, speeches, slideshows, and the end the evening with a dance. COVID regulations won’t allow us to have such a large celebration together, so we are thinking outside the box. By outside the box, I mean we are taking this thing outdoors. That Saturday evening out on the THS football field we are borrowing Coach Agiannidis’s giant inflatable screen and projecting our usual slideshow and movies onto it. There will be no food provided. There will be plenty of room for everyone to social distance out on the turf field. We’ll have a small stage set up for speeches and presentations. It’s going to be a great celebration to wrap up this crazy year.

Please pass along to friends who may be rising freshmen or new to Taylor!
