Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands
Welcome to week 2 of online learning. This week, the brass and woodwind students have a video scale assignment, the color guard has a movement and flag video assignment, and the percussion have a pad video assignment.
At this point a lot is still unknown but there are a few things that I now have answers about. UIL has said no contests will happen prior to May 4 but even if we return, no KISD campuses would be available to host so essentially UIL is cancelled no matter. The Wind Ensemble’s TMEA Honor Band competition has been cancelled and our two recording sessions at University of Houston are therefore cancelled.
Drum Major candidates are working with the outgoing Senior Drum Majors on their training. Next month we’ll begin section leader auditions, even if we are still online. Next year’s class placement auditions will take place in May, even if we are still online. Next year’s Mustang show music has already been written and the first draft of the brass and woodwind book for about half the competition show has been written, so we have some music to work on, if we continue online.

Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President
Looks like we are definitely in for the long haul with regard to social distancing. Our next general booster meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 7th at 7pm. We will be holding the meeting using Zoom. The link to join the meeting will be posted in the Band Boosters group on Facebook prior to the meeting. We will also post the agenda and any handouts so that you can print them at home.
Please also look in the group for updated information regarding open positions for next year. Position descriptions will be posted in the next couple of days. If you are interested in stepping forward and taking on more of a role as a volunteer, please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I continue to keep our extended band and guard family in my prayers for continued good health and perseverance in this difficult time.
