If your student made the TMEA Region 23 Honor Band, you may have heard them mention that we were working on creating a Katy ISD Honor Band since the TMEA organization has decided that they will not host any in-person events through at least June. This KISD Honor Band has been cancelled.
Due to the decision of TMEA of “no live” events we will not be able to offer the supplemental event of a district honor band clinic/concert this semester. Furthermore, we are unable to use the TMEA audition results for the purpose of creating a district local “live” event. Click here for the official TMEA notification.

We have a few upcoming events to discuss, including our garage sale item drop off and the mulch fundraiser. Winter guard season is also moving full speed ahead. If you own a small business or know someone who does, please look into advertising that business through their T-Shirt Fundraiser Any winter guard member or parent can provide more information. Order your band yearbook today! A wonderful keepsake of the band and color guard memories throughout this extraordinary school year! This is an 80+ page full color hard bound book. It will be distributed before school is out for the summer.

Auction/ Garage Sale Items
In lieu of our garage sale this year, we had hoped to hold on online auction in the early spring. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a volunteer to coordinate this fundraiser. We are still looking for good quality items to be donated. This year, rather than quantity, we are going for quality! If we do not hold an auction this year, we will hold onto the best items that we collect for a garage sale next year.
If you are a business owner or know a small business owner- a donated item, experience, or gift card would be a fantastic way to advertise your business. We still have a couple of events coming up this year (including our band banquet) where we can raffle items off to raise some money for the program and give your business some great positive advertising with our band family. Have an item that you are ready to drop off now? Bring it to Fry Road Self Storage at 926 South Fry Rd this Saturday, February 13th from 2-4pm. Please keep in mind that we are limited in what we can take this year due to pandemic precautions and limited storage space, so please sort your items with care. We hope that you understand if we are forced to politely turn away items that would not be good candidates for an online auction or that we are unable to store for potentially several months.
If you are able to help, please see Helper Helper for volunteer slots this Saturday to help with reorganizing our storage units and accepting donation drop offs this weekend.
It’s almost spring! That means sprucing up the garden and landscaping. Help support the band and accomplish your garden goals by ordering your mulch from the JET Band. We will start taking orders this Friday, February 12th on the JET Band website. Options include mulch only to be picked up or mulch with delivery and installation by our fantastic team of volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers- we will need help with customer pick up orders, and manpower and trucks for the delivery and installation. Ordering will take place online only through the beginning of March. Order pickup will be the Friday and Saturday of the first weekend of Spring Break. Delivery and installation orders will be taken care of that Saturday, March 13th. Mark your calendars and check Helper Helper over the next several days. Those opportunities will be posted this weekend.
Please begin to think forward to how you might like to step up to serve the JET Band next year. If you have been volunteering with a particular group or crew, please ask that coordinator about shadowing them if you are interested in taking on more responsibility. Now is the time to start gathering information from our graduating senior parents so that we have a smooth transition for next year.
This year we’ll be doing something a little different. On March 23rd at 6pm, we will have a Leadership Interest Meeting on Zoom to provide additional information and answer questions for anyone who might be thinking of stepping up into a coordinator or leadership position. We will follow up in April and May with a couple more strategic training and planning sessions to help ease the transition from current coordinators to new leaders.
Used Band Gear
There is a supply of used band gear that is available to anyone who can make use of those items. If you are in need of band gear for next year or would like to donate, please email David & Christy Bailey at email@example.com to make arrangements.
Earn money for your student’s Charms account with money that you had planned to spend anyway! This is a great way to add money to your student’s account through rebates and lessen your out of pocket band/guard expenses. Get set up now and use the rebate earnings to start saving for next year’s fees!
