JET Band Booster Blast 12/3/19

Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands

The next Football game is Saturday, December 7th at 2pm at NRG. That’s going to be a little crazy for us because we have students that are auditioning for Region Band this weekend, our campus is hosting the Junior High Region Band Clinic and Concert, our choir program has their Madrigal dinner this weekend, and our campus is hosting the SAT test on Saturday.

The majority of us will depart THS at noon on Saturday (load trailer and inspections at 11am). But loading will be different because we won’t have access to the band hall, orchestra room, PAC, choir or main commons because of the other events on campus. After school on Friday, we have to move everything we’ll need for the football game down to the freshmen gym – that’s uniforms, instruments, flip folders, everything. We won’t have access to the band hall at all on Saturday. Saturday when you arrive on campus for the game, you’ll go straight to the freshmen gym and we’ll do inspections and load the trailer from there.

Students that are auditioning for the High School Region Band Saturday morning: We will have a bus depart from Paetow HS after the auditions are over. That bus hopefully will arrive at NRG during the first half of the game. You will need to take your uniform home with you on Friday and take it with you to the audition so you can change before loading the bus. You will also either need to take your marching instrument to the auditions or find a responsible person to load it for you.

Freshmen students who are auditioning for the Freshmen Region Band will miss the playoff game.

Upperclassmen that are taking the SAT and can’t get here by noon will miss the playoff game.

Several parents have stated that they want the band to perform or do more than arc it up and play to the student section at the next game. While it would be awesome to perform in the big stadium, that’s not at all feasible this time of the year. We are no longer in marching band season. We contractually can no longer perform our contest show and we haven’t touched the Mustang show since the beginning of September. Even standing and playing in the Pacesetter block won’t work this week because of the number of students that will be absent due to Region auditions, SAT tests, and other prior commitments. It would take a rehearsal to figure out a new block that didn’t look like swiss cheese. We are at the games to cheer on the team, but Mr. Morgan and I have agreed the band should do whatever is least stressful. Between the 5 concert bands, the symphony orchestra, the jazz band, and the winter guards we are already booked after school this week. Next week all 200 woodwind and brass players have their auditions for class placement next semester. This weekend we have a lot of students that are auditioning for the TMEA Region 23 Band. TMEA State Honor Band season for the Wind Ensemble started December 1st and runs through the end of May. We haven’t even begun to prepare the music for next week’s JET Jingle. We have tons of other things on our plates this time of the year, so Saturday we’ll have a good time and once again do what can to cheer on the team while not taking any time away from all the other things we have already transitioned to doing.

Full Ensemble Rehearsals with Percussionists in preparation for next week’s concerts.

  • THSSO Tues Dec 3rd 3:30-5:30.
  • Cadet Band: Tues Dec 10th 2:45-4 and Wed Dec 11th during Enrichment.
  • Concert Band: Wed Dec 4th 3-4:30.
  • Symphonic: Tues Dec 3rd 3-4:30.
  • Wind Ensemble: Enrichments Tues Dec 3 and Dec 10.

Next week’s concerts here in our PAC: THSSO Wednesday, Dec 11 at 7pm.  Band Thursday, Dec 12 at 7pm.

TMEA Region 23 auditions are this Friday and Saturday at Paetow HS. We haven’t received times yet for the different instruments, but will get those to the students once that is communicated to us.

Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President

Please try to make it to our general booster meeting this evening at 7pm.  We will be discussing our upcoming JET Jingle Tour and as well as the upcoming events for the next several weeks.  Mr. Ary’s message includes lots of important details for the next couple of weeks of concert season.  Please make note of the dates and times that are relevant for your student.

For those attending the football game on Saturday, please ensure that your child has eaten a good meal before arriving.  They should bring their filled water jug so that they have something to drink on the bus for the rides to and from the stadium.  Send money for lunch if you would like them to purchase food from the concessions stand at the stadium.  A snack will be provided on the bus for the trip back to school.

Please stay tuned for information about a volunteer appreciation event this month.  We’d like to usher in the holiday season with some time spent relaxing together.  The date and location will be announced as an event on the JET Band Booster Facebook page.  If you haven’t joined the group yet, please check it out today.

JET Band Jingle Tour

Spread the word about our 2nd annual JET Jingle Tour on Saturday, December 14th, from 2-4 PM! Share the link www.jetband.org/jingletour to get more details on the map route, request songs at one of our Reindeer Stops, and to pay donations online.

We will be marching through Green Trails from the community pool to the park on Crescent Green. The JET Band will entertain the neighborhood with songs at Reindeer stops along the route, and donations will be taken for cookies, refreshments, and pictures with Santa at the park.

Helper Helper has been updated with volunteer and donation needs.  We also still need a Refreshments Coordinator (lead the team to set up water and hot chocolate at the park for serving after the concert).

Please contact Kristin Abel at secretary@jetband.org if you’d like to help or have any questions.

Mattress Fundraiser

Our annual mattress fundraiser will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020.  The parent meeting will be held on February 4, 2020.  This is a major fundraiser for us which involves no donations and very little work other than raising awareness in the community that we are holding the sale.  More details coming soon!

Yearbook

Reserve your copy of the band yearbook! Click here to order online and place personal ads. Or click here to download the order formand send your cash/check payment to the band hall. For questions or interest in helping with the yearbook, email Jenny Singson at  yearbook@jetband.org.

Spirit Stores and JET Band Assistance Fund

Missed out on the group spirit wear orders?  Looking for something different and new?  Check out these two online shops for more spirit wear and gear options!  Items in these shops will be shipped directly to you rather than being ordered as part of a group.  Cold weather gear including hats, jackets and an array of hoodies are available.

These shops will be available throughout the year and 5% of each sale will go to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund to help provide for those students who may have a need for help with meeting the expense of participating in band and guard.

Generous alumni parents have offered matching funds for donations to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund.  If you’d like to help, you can donate in any amount by check made out to JET Band Boosters, in an envelope labeled “JET Band Assistance Fund”, and drop it into the band safe.
