Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President
This is a busy week. Our students have two contests, on Tuesday and on Saturday, and a football game on Friday. Separate from all of the usual volunteer needs that go with those commitments, as an organization we are responsible for manning the gates and running concession stands at the two contests which will be hosted at Legacy Stadium this week. Thank you so much to those of you who have already signed up! However, we are in dire need of more help.
I understand that some of the shifts overlap with when our kids are performing. On Tuesday, we are working on lining up some coverage so that we can see our kids for the UIL performance. Please don’t let that deter you from signing up for a shift. The afternoon shifts on Saturday would mean that you would not be able to see the kids perform since they will be at the Berry Center and we will be helping at Legacy. Please understand that this is a sacrifice that we are asking of a few, so that all of the band and guard can benefit from the revenue sharing of these events with the district. It is critical that these spots are filled. This is absolutely a fundraising opportunity for us. However, we can only share in the revenue if we do our part to host the events.
Please read the details below carefully, the shifts that need to be covered by Taylor parents (gate, loading crew, Keurig and cooler donations) will be found in Helper Helper and the concessions shifts will be found via Sign UpGenius links which are provided below. If you have non-band children (or friends) who need volunteer hours, please encourage them to help us with concessions. Students from any school (junior high or high school) can volunteer during any student shifts throughout the day at concessions.
Thanks in advance for your support!

UIL Marching Contest – October 22nd
We are responsible for concessions and manning the gate at this contest. This event takes place on Tuesday. We are requesting that the Brass sections and Color Guard parents volunteer for this event. However, if you are a parent from another section and willing to help, please sign up.
We hope to get some help from volunteers throughout the district for concessions, therefore that signup will be on Signup Genius. After the event, please use the Add Past Commitment feature to log your hours in Helper Helper. Our band is scheduled to perform at 5:45pm. We will either have helpers from another school or will close the concession stand during our band’s performance. Please do not let that stop you from signing up!
5A Area Contest – October 26th
We will not be performing at this event. In fact, the band will be performing at the Cypress Showcase Marching Contest this day at 2:00pm, at the Berry Center. Help from any available parents is greatly appreciated.
We are responsible for concessions and manning the gate at this contest. The gate opportunities are available now in Helper Helper. We are solely responsible for the gate, so we need to fill those slots. At this point, we have NO volunteers for the afternoon shifts. The district is depending on us to fill those spots and get this job done. Please help!
We hope to get some help from volunteers throughout the district for concessions, therefore that signup will be on Signup Genius. After the event, please use the Add Past Commitment feature to log your hours in Helper Helper. Time slots may be adjusted when we receive the final schedule for the day.
We will also need some loading crew support for drop off and pick up of coolers and concessions items at the beginning and end of the day. If you have a truck or trailer and are willing to help before/after supporting our kids at their contest, please check out the opportunity in Helper Helper. If you are not a part of the loading crew, but can help with this, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we can add you to the opportunity. It is currently viewable by Loading Crew.
Keurigs & Coolers Needed
We are in need of 5 Keurigs for use at the concession stands on October 22nd and 26th. If you are willing to let us borrow yours, please sign up in HelperHelper.
We will need at least 4 extra-large coolers for the contest on the 26th. If you have an extra-large cooler that we may borrow for use at the concession stand on October 26th, please sign up in HelperHelper.
Pick up and drop off details for each of those donation items are listed in the opportunities in Helper Helper.
Parking/ Traffic Plan
Click here for the traffic plan that we have been asked to follow for student pickup, particularly on performance days when buses and the trailer need to be able to move freely in front of the school. Please plan ahead and discuss with your child where you will pick them up.
Clear Bag Policy
Click here for the Katy ISD clear bag policy that is in effect at football games this year. Bags are available to purchase with the T-Band logo in our online shop at shop.jetband.org To pay by cash or check, include payment in an envelope labeled with student’s name and quantity requested of sling bags or square stadium bags. We also have water bottles and sunglasses available.
***Clear bag policy is strictly enforced at the Alamodome in San Antonio. If you are planning to attend the BOA SuperRegional in San Antonio, make sure that you have your clear bag supporting the JET Band!***
Senior Night Mini Mums
Senior night will be the last football game of the year on November 7th. Order a mini mum honoring your senior starting today! Click here to download the order form, which will also be available at tonight’s general booster meeting. The cost is $30 and orders will be accepted (with full payment) through October 31st. Orders with payment may be turned in to a box in the main office, similar to regular mum sales. Send any questions to email@example.com.
If you ordered a show shirt and have not picked it up, have your student look on the table at the front of the band hall. All hoodies should be delivered this week. Contact Melissa Crowder at firstname.lastname@example.org if there are any issues or questions.
Spirit Stores and JET Band Assistance Fund
Missed out on the group spirit wear orders? Looking for something different and new? Check out these two online shops for more spirit wear and gear options! Items in these shops will be shipped directly to you rather than being ordered as part of a group. Cold weather gear including hats, jackets and an array of hoodies are available.
These shops will be available throughout the year and 5% of each sale will go to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund to help provide for those students who may have a need for help with meeting the expense of participating in band and guard.
Generous alumni parents have offered matching funds for donations to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund. If you’d like to help, you can donate in any amount by check made out to JET Band Boosters, in an envelope labeled “JET Band Assistance Fund”, and drop it into the band safe.
