Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands
After going hard for three weeks, we get a little reprieve this week. Rehearsals are scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday (with Program Coordinator Keith Dunton and Choreographer Peter Beckhart), and Thursday. Friday is an early release day from school at 11:35am, but then we have a 7:30 football game at Rhodes. And then we get a weekend off!
If it’s storming today (Tuesday) afternoon like it is currently forecasted to do, we may bank some of that time and start up a bit earlier Friday afternoon. At this point of the season we need to be out on the field, not crammed into a gym so if we can bank times and use it somewhere else during the week, we will.
With the early release on Friday, some of the students stay here on campus because of lack of transportation. The band hall will be open so that’s fine. They just need to make sure they have lunch plans figured out. (Click here for game itinerary.)
Next week we are back at it hard with a Monday rehearsal, Tuesday UIL performance at Legacy at 5:45pm, Wednesday rehearsal, Thursday rehearsal, Friday football game, and Saturday contest at the Berry Center.
Then the following week is our final week of our competitive season with us ending up at the BOA Super Regional in San Antonio. This Super Regional is one of the, if not the hardest marching contest in the entire country. There are 84 bands competing this year at the San Antonio Super Regional. If you haven’t heard already, our original time slot had us performing some time Friday evening between 7-10pm. This past week, Conroe HS learned that they couldn’t miss their Saturday night football game so they needed to switch to a Friday performance. We switched with them and we’ll now be performing at 1:45 Saturday afternoon – that is an incredible time slot! The Alamodome will be filled with thousands of spectators at that point and who knows how many more thousands watching the livestream on Flomarching because there are just 6 more bands after us before the announcement of Finalists. Unfortunately at this point we cannot receive a refund on our hotel rooms so we will still be leaving Friday and staying the night, but now we won’t be in any hurry to get out of town and we will have a nice calm morning going into our afternoon performance.

Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President
Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked on Thursday for the football game and on Saturday for the contest – both directly with our kids and at the stadium to help run the concessions stand. We have a little bit of a reprieve this week to catch our breaths before the home stretch of our contest season. Let’s take advantage by encouraging our kids to rest and get caught up on school work as much as possible. Don’t forget hydration every day!
We are down to the last couple of marching contests that we are helping to host at Legacy. Please read the details below carefully, some opportunities will be found in Helper Helper and some will be found via SignUpGenius links which are provided below. If you have non-band children (or friends) who need volunteer hours, please encourage them to help us with concessions. All of this is in addition to the normal volunteer needs that are required to get our kids onto the field. Thanks in advance to our loading crew, JET Fuel teams, uniform crew, Tide Troopers, photographers, and chaperones who work week in and week out to make this program run like a well-oiled machine!

UIL Marching Contest – October 22nd
We are responsible for concessions and manning the gate at this contest. This event takes place on a Tuesday. We are requesting that the Brass sections and Color Guard parents volunteer for this event.
The gate opportunities are available now in HelperHelper. We are solely responsible for the gate, so we need to fill those slots.
We hope to get some help from volunteers throughout the district for concessions, therefore those opportunities will be on Signup Genius. Click here to sign up for concession volunteer slots.
After the event, please use the “Add Past Commitment feature” to log your hours in HelperHelper. Our band is scheduled to perform at 5:45pm.
5A Area Contest – October 26th
We will not be performing at this event. In fact, the band will be performing at the Cypress Showcase Marching Contest this day at 2:00pm. Help from any available parents is greatly appreciated.

We will also need some loading crew support for drop off and pick up of coolers and concessions items at the beginning and end of the day. If you have a truck or trailer and are willing to help before/after supporting our kids at their contest, please check out the opportunity in Helper Helper. If you are not a part of the loading crew, but can help with this, please email email@example.com and we can add you to the opportunity. It is currently viewable by Loading Crew.
Keurigs & Coolers Needed
We are in need of 5 Keurigs for use at the concession stands on October 22nd and 26th. If you are willing to let us borrow yours, please sign up in HelperHelper.
We will need at least 4 extra-large coolers for the contest on the 26th. If you have an extra-large cooler that we may borrow for use at the concession stand on October 26th, please sign up in HelperHelper.

Parking/ Traffic Plan
Click here for the traffic plan that we have been asked to follow for student pickup, particularly on performance days when buses and the trailer need to be able to move freely in front of the school. Please plan ahead and discuss with your child where you will pick them up.
Clear Bag Policy
Click here for the Katy ISD clear bag policy that is in effect at football games this year. Bags are available to purchase with the T-Band logo in our online shop at shop.jetband.org To pay by cash or check, include payment in an envelope labeled with student’s name and quantity requested of sling bags or square stadium bags. We also have water bottles and sunglasses available.
Senior Night Mini Mums
Senior night will be the last football game of the year on November 7th. Order a mini mum honoring your senior starting today! Click here to download the order form, which will also be available at tonight’s general booster meeting. The cost is $30 and orders will be accepted (with full payment) through October 31st. Orders with payment may be turned in to a box in the main office, similar to regular mum sales. Send any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you ordered a show shirt and have not picked it up, have your student look on the table at the front of the band hall. All hoodies should be delivered this week. Contact Melissa Crowder at email@example.com if there are any issues or questions.
Spirit Stores and JET Band Assistance Fund
We have spirit wear options available through two online shops. Items in these shops will be shipped directly to you rather than being ordered as part of a group. These shops will be available throughout the year and 5% of each sale will go to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund to help provide for those students who may have a need for help with meeting the expense of participating in band and guard. Generous alumni parents have offered matching funds for donations to the JET Band Student Assistance Fund. If you’d like to help, you can donate in any amount by check made out to JET Band Boosters, in an envelope labeled “JET Band Assistance Fund”, dropped into the band safe.
