Message from Michael Ary, Director of Bands
Happy New Year! As we are settling in to the semester, we’ll be making decisions on what exactly this semester will look like. We are trying to see how many students we actually have in-class versus KVA and seeing what our concert band set-ups will look like as we try to maintain safe distances while playing indoors.
UIL Solo and Ensemble will be coming up soon this semester. The difference this year is instead of us traveling to MRHS and playing there with all the other schools, the judge(s) will come here to Taylor and listen to our students.
UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contest is in April. We are still determining what ensembles we think can/will attend that.
KISD is still trying to figure out a clinic and performance opportunity for all of our students that made the TMEA Region 23 Honor Band.
As we make further decisions about concert band sectionals and full ensemble rehearsals, be on the lookout for updates via the Blast and the Charms calendar.

Message from Shakira Luna, Band Booster President
Welcome to concert and winter guard season! There is still a lot of the band year left. Band portraits will be taken the week of January 25th. A special blast will go out with a link to sign up for a time slot after school for students to come in and have their picture taken. The photos are used for the yearbook and for the large composite photo of the band which is posted in the band hall, so please make sure that your student signs up. Please join us for our January general booster meeting tonight at 7pm. Zoom info will be posted in the Facebook group.

Order your band yearbook today! A wonderful keepsake of the band and color guard memories throughout this extraordinary school year! This is a 80+ page full color hard bound book. It will be distributed before school’s out.
Make it even more special and place a personal ad! You can design one yourself or we can make it for you.
For questions and to inquire on personal or business ads, email email@example.com.
In lieu of our garage sale this year, we will be holding on online auction in the early spring. We are looking for good quality items to be donated. This year, rather than quantity, we are going for quality! Please start thinking about anything that you may have that you would be willing to get rid of. If you are a business owner or know a small business owner- a donated item, experience, or gift card would be a fantastic way to advertise your business. Since the auction will be online, we hope to advertise it far beyond the bounds of our JET Band community. Please send any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org. Have an item that you are ready to drop off now? Email email@example.com to make arrangements. We will have a couple of scheduled item drop off dates soon.
Please begin to think forward to how you might like to step up to serve the JET Band next year. If you have been volunteering with a particular group or crew, please ask that coordinator about shadowing them if you are interested in taking on more responsibility. Now is the time to start gathering information from our graduating senior parents so that we have a smooth transition for next year.
We use the Helper Helper app to manage volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Please visit tiny.cc/helpjetband to register. Once you receive an email with your temporary password, you will be able to download the Helper Helper app and see open opportunities. This is a manual process, so you will not receive your password right away.
Every student and parent must register with a unique email address. The email address will be your username, so if you share an email, you will not have your own account. We use this system to track membership in the booster organization and track volunteer hours. It is also a great way for students to keep track of their service hours (great for leadership and scholarship applications).
Here is some additional information on the open positions that are remaining along with contact info for additional questions. If there is no other contact info provided, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in any of the following opportunities:
Scrips (Help to advertise the Scrips program, assist with orders and recordkeeping, and deliver any physical gift card orders- email@example.com )
Concert Uniforms (Measure students for fit and organize distribution of concert uniforms)
Marching Uniforms (Measure students for fit and organize distribution of concert uniforms, supervise student uniform crew. Marching.firstname.lastname@example.org ) We are still looking for someone willing to be trained to take over this position!
Used Band Gear
There is a supply of used band gear that is available to anyone who can make use of those items. If you are in need of band gear or would like to donate, please email David & Christy Bailey at email@example.com to make arrangements.
Earn money for your student’s Charms account with money that you had planned to spend anyway! This is a great way to add money to your student’s account through rebates and lessen your out of pocket band/guard expenses.
Scrips for physical gift cards will be ordered according to the following schedule for the year.
Orders will be placed at 8 am on the following dates.
|Order Placed||Estimated Delivery Date|
|January 25th||Janaury 29th|
|February 22nd||February 26th|
|March 22nd||March 26th|
|April 26th||April 30th|

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Fowler firstname.lastname@example.org .
