Special JET Band Booster Blast 11/7/18

Message from Mike Ary, Director of Bands

I am extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments this season.  While our placements at our last two contests in San Antonio may be a bit bittersweet, we have to remember that Texas has the best bands in the country (that’s the truth – all four of us Directors moved from out-of-state to teach band in TX because this is the Mecca of band) and advancing to Finals at BOA Conroe and advancing to the UIL State Marching Band Contest were HUGE accomplishments.  The UIL State process started with 243 bands at the Region level, about 200 of those advanced to the 8 different Area contests, and from Area the top 41 bands advanced to State.  That panel of judges on that day decided we were the 35th best band in the State.  Our students had their best performance of the year Monday morning at State, so we couldn’t ask any more from them!

Tomorrow night we have the Katy football game at Legacy starting at 6:00pm.  Yes, it starts at 6 so we can all get to bed sooner on this school-night.  Halftime is going to be quite different.  Katy ISD is doing a salute to Veterans at both our game and the Friday night game.  The halftime order is going to be 1.) Katy Brigade performance, 2.) JET Band joins the Katy band on the field for a combined performance of “Salute to America’s Finest”, 3.) Katy fight song towards their crowd, 4.) JET Pacesetter performance, 5.) Pacesetter Senior recognitions, 6.) JET Band Senior recognitions, 7.) JET fight song towards our crowd

Senior Parents: tomorrow night at halftime you will need to come down to the field using the band staircases and gather in the north end zone.  While the Pacesetter Seniors are being recognized, your Senior will help you all get lined up in alphabetical order.  During our recognitions, we’ll announce the Senior student’s name and who is escorting them, then your Senior will walk you out onto the field.  Follow the itinerary link to:  Senior Night Itinerary

Our football team has advanced to the playoffs.  It will be early next week before we know when/where that game will be.  The game should be either Friday the 16th or Saturday the 17th.  If the team wins that game, the second round game will be the very next weekend.  I understand many families have already made plans to be traveling over the holiday, just make sure you communicate any absence with us so we can account for your student.

What a huge accomplishment for our band students!  We are all so very proud!  Our Monday’s performance was the best ever!  From the outstanding music to the exceptional visual experience, the entire show was our best to date!  And for the parents who effortlessly volunteered their time to help support the BOA and STATE contest trips, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  It was SO GREAT to see so many parents attending the performances.  We were loud and proud!

Spirit Wear

It’s starting to get cold soon so don’t forget to order your hoodie!  Follow the link to the order form: JET Band Spirit Wear order form.

Also, I still have some STATE shirts that weren’t picked up.  I will bring those to the game and will be sitting on the second level above the band.

Holiday March-A-Thon

This new holiday event will be scheduled for December 15th from 2:00-4:15pm.  We plan to have a holiday theme with marching through Green Trails subdivision and ending at the park with the band playing a few holiday songs, hot chocolate, candy canes, etc.  While marching on the short route, concerts can be purchased and the band will stop and play a holiday song.  We are thinking about having a “Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest”!  If you would like to help with this event, please email Kristen at secretary@jetband.org.

Don’t forget to continue to track your volunteer hours!  Please forward all October hours to points@jetband.org.
