Message from Mike Ary, JET Band Director
Schedule this week:
- Monday off
- Tuesday 3:30-6:00
- Wednesday 3:30-6:00
- Thursday 3:30-6:15
- Friday (BOA SA Itinerary)
- Sunday (UIL SMC Itinerary)
Friday, November 2nd – Tuesday, November 6th is going to be a long, gruesome, fun and memorable 5 days for the JET Band!
The links above are itineraries for BOA San Antonio and for the UIL State Marching Contest. The BOA itinerary is pretty set and doesn’t have any foreseeable changes to it. The UIL SMC itinerary is very preliminary and I’m just getting it out there so people have an idea of the timeline and how quick the turnaround between the two trips will be.
I’m sure some will look at these itineraries and just say “wouldn’t it make more sense if we just stayed in San Antonio Friday – Tuesday? I, myself thought that at one point. The problem with that is the BOA trip is paid for by us via the band fees your student paid, the UIL trip is paid for by the school district. We’ll have different buses for each trip and different hotels. The travel agent we used for BOA is different from the travel agent KISD uses. Some of the chaperones that can do the BOA trip won’t be able to also miss work to do the UIL SMC trip. It’s going to be a bit rougher on our bodies traveling back to Katy just to turn around about 12 hours later and head back, but I don’t see any other way around it.
Until I have a meeting with our administration I don’t know a lot of exact details about our SMC trip. I don’t know if our students get meal money or if that’s something you are going to have to provide. I don’t know the name of the hotel. Just bear with us the next few days as details get ironed out and I’ll let you know more information as soon as I know more information.

Message from Spencer Bennett, JET Band President
Making history again! 1983, 2002 and now 2018! We are all so proud of our students! From the daunting hot days of summer band to their INCREDIBLE performance at Area, their journey has advanced them to the coveted UIL State Contest.
Like Mike mentioned above, these next few weeks will be challenging to make it all happen for our students. However, I am entirely confident that our parents will provide the volunteer support to make this experience AWESOME!

Trunk or Treat
Mark your calendars – We are having a “Trunk or Treat” for our band kids on Halloween (October 31st). We will set up at 5:45 near the practice lot. Come in costume and bring candy to pass out! When they are dismissed at 6pm they will be able to “Trunk or Treat”. Don’t worry if you can’t come and want to help, contact Amy Fowler at firstname.lastname@example.org to make a candy donation.
Project Grad Donations
THS Project Graduation organizes a safe, alcohol and drug free celebration after the graduation ceremony open to all Taylor High School Class of 2019 graduates. The JET band has been asked to donate a gift basket and a wreath for auction to raise funds for the event. As one of the largest organizations on campus, this is a great opportunity to support our seniors!
We have very little time left and have received very few donations. We need your help! Not sure what to do? Gift cards to Amazon.com or cash can be left in the band safe clearly labeled “Project Grad Donation” by Thursday, November 1. If you would like to help with the creation of either the basket or the wreath, please email Shakira Luna at email@example.com.
This new holiday event will be scheduled for December 15th from 2:00-4:15pm. We plan to have a holiday theme with marching through Green Trails subdivision and ending at the park with the band playing a few holiday songs, hot chocolate, candy canes, etc. While marching on the short route, concerts can be purchased and the band will stop and play a holiday song. We are thinking about having a “Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest”! If you would like to help with this event, please email Kristen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don’t forget to continue to track your volunteer hours! Please forward all October hours to email@example.com.
- A special recognition from Francyne Kennedy to her JET Fuel Game parents:
“As successful as last week was for our band, we couldn’t have pulled it off without our hardworking volunteers. I’d like to send a ‘triple forte’ shout out to all of the dedicated JET Fuel parents who’ve gone beyond the call of duty in support of our students. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”
- And behind the scenes are our AWESOME uniform parents who organize and distribute uniforms and the Tide Troopers who wash the uniforms and keep them pristine. Thank you, uniform parents and Tide Troopers! You keep us looking sharp and smelling clean!
- A special recognition from Shakira Luna to the concession volunteers:
“Would like to extend a special thanks to all of the parents and friends who helped with concessions at the UIL Region and Area contests. Everything you did to make this effort a success- from loaning us your coolers, to helping load and unload supplies, to using your vehicles for transport, to working at the stand for hours- was greatly appreciated! Special thanks to those who checked in throughout the day on Saturday to make sure that we had the help we needed and worked multiple shifts throughout the day. This was a huge undertaking that was only successful thanks to the support of our volunteers. We appreciate you!”
- Thank you to the JET Fuel Contest crew – Jenny Bennett and Amy Fowler! Thank you for feeding our students as we all recognize it’s no easy task!
Again, thank you to everyone who has helped with making history for the JET Band! Your volunteering efforts have helped the JET Band maintain excellence. Let me know if anyone has any questions. President@jetband.org.
