JET Band Booster Blast 10/8/18

Message from Mike Ary, JET Band Director

Saturday was another great day in the JET Band history books.  This is the 3rd time we’ve advanced to the BOA Conroe Finals.  The students performed well and all of our adult volunteers did great helping the kids throughout the super long day.

This week we have Monday afternoon off (remember it’s an early dismissal day), Tuesday 3:30-6:15, Wednesday 3:30-6:15, Thursday 3:30-5:45, Friday game (attached), Saturday Katy Marching Fest (attached).  Our drill writer will be in from California on Tuesday and Wednesday, hence us going to 6:15 both days.

Message from Spencer Bennett, JET Band President

Making history again!  JET Band made it to finals and finished with the highest point value in school history!  Our kids were resilient as they braved the heat, the competition, and the long day to put on two amazing performances.  None of it would’ve been possible without the leadership and dedication of our amazing directors and techs.  We thank you for what YOU do!  It was a great weekend!

Quick reminder about parking and pickup when the buses are returning from a game or contest.  Please make sure you stay outside of the coned area in front of the school so that when the buses and trucks/trailers arrive, they have adequate room to maneuver in and unload timely.

JET Band Mum Mania has begun!

Band parents: Mum/Garter orders can be placed in the band room safe!

JET Band Mum & Garter sales are very important as it is our 2nd largest fundraiser.  Along with a big fundraiser, we need your help making and selling mums.  The more orders we are able to take, the more lucrative the fundraiser!

This is the last week for Custom Orders for Mums and Garters.  We will be set-up in the Main Commons during all lunch periods and expect it to get quite busy.  Pre-Made Mums will be available for sale starting on Friday October 12 and we will be selling those through next week, Wednesday October 17.

Please consider signing up to help sales!  No experience necessary!  Ann Wigger will be there every day to provide assistance.  This is an important fund raiser for JET Band and all help would be greatly appreciated.  If you can only make it for part of the time block- that’s okay too!

Donations:  If you have any ribbon to donate in ANY color, we would love to have it.  We are in special need of gold, silver, royal blue and colors from other KISD schools.  Please drop off any donations in or near the band hall safe, marked “mums” Thank you!

UIL Region and Area Marching Band Concession Stands

On October 23rd and 27th, the UIL Region and Area Marching Contests will be held at Legacy Stadium.  The Taylor HS band is in charge of concessions for both events and will need non-band students and any adults for the day and evening.  Both parent and student volunteers (NHS, Mustangs Volunteering Proudly, those in need of church or charity league hours, etc.) are asked to sign up for a time slot.  Adults volunteering will be handling money and concession prep. The kids will be fetching food for customers, and helping with set up and clean up. All can stay and watch the shows, before and after their shift.

Please sign up for multiple shifts if you can!  It will be really helpful to have trained workers on hand from one shift to the next, and from one event to the next.  Feel free to pass along the signup links to your friends who may have students in need of volunteer hours.

Our band will benefit greatly from the proceeds of this event, so please help out if you can.  Thanks in advance for your support!

Please contact concessions@jetband.org with any questions.

Trunk or Treat

Mark your calendars – We are having a “Trunk or Treat” for our band kids on Halloween (October 31st).  We will set up at 5:45 near the practice lot.  Come in costume and bring candy to pass out!  When they are dismissed at 6pm they will be able to “Trunk or Treat”.  Don’t worry if you can’t come and want to help, contact Amy Fowler at amymfowler@sbcglobal.net to make a candy donation.

Holiday March-A-Thon

This new holiday event will be scheduled for December 15th from 2-4:15pm.  We plan to have a holiday theme with marching through Green Trails subdivision and ending at the park with the band playing a few holiday songs, hot chocolate, candy canes, etc.  While marching on the short route, concerts can be purchased and the band will stop and play a holiday song.  We are thinking about having a “Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest”!

If you would like to help with this event, please email Kristen at secretary@jetband.org.

Special Recognition

How about our Loading Crew and Chaperones!  They put in countless hours and gallons of sweat equity this weekend.  We appreciate all of you!
